Douglas Motorsport duo Thomas Randle and Mike Newbould have broken through to claim their first podium with a third place finish in Sundays race at Brands Hatch in the LMP3 Cup Championship.
The pair finished race one on Saturday in fourth place after having being forced to start the race from the pit lane with a mechanical issue.
Randle and Newbould now lie in third place in the driver’s standings for the overall championship.
“This is awesome!” said Randle. “We were so close to claiming a podium at Donington and had the pace to claim a podium on Saturdays race but unfortunately things didn’t go our way, so to finally stand up there was terrific, and this being Mikes first ever podium in motor racing is fantastic also. Mike drove two great stints on Saturday and Sunday and after he handed the car off to me, I just pushed as hard as I could. The car was super quick on Sunday and I took the fastest lap of the race by over two tenths, narrowly missing out on the overall lap record on Saturday by six thousandths of a second.
Unfortunately we had an issue in the pit stop on Sunday and I had to serve a one second stop-go penalty but with the pace we had, I managed to get back up to fourth and after Jamie Spence’s retirement that relegated us to third.“ The next round of the LMP3 Cup Championship will be held at Spa Francorchamps on the 9th to 11th of June.
